Abstract

Mucocele involving only the sphenoid sinus is uncommon. It is probably under-diagnosed as they may be asymptomatic or cause non-specific symptoms. Headache is the most common symptom and visual disturbance is the second commonest. This results from involvement of cranial nerves II, III, IV, and VI in isolation or combination. The optic nerve is the most frequently involved cranial nerve but the isolated involvement of the third cranical nerve is rare. We present a case of sphenoid sinus mucocele with isolated oculomotor nerve palsy. It was treated with transnasal sphenoidotomy and marsupialization of mucocele.
